Incredibly vivid and eerie colour photographs from Russia circa 1910. “Eerie,” because we’re so unused to looking at still photographic images from before the ’50s, let alone the ’10s, in colour with this sort of clarity. It feels like looking through a magic window through time. This isn’t even the most arresting image, but I find it fascinating to see the way we Jews dressed in that era. Old-school Judaism wasn’t always Hasidic-style black frock coats and hats—look at the kid on the right, that Eastern flair!

This is another polite note to urge Tumblr-ers everywhere to put their name, or at least some kind of indication of who or what you are, somewhere on your blog, so I know who just followed me. A hint, a clue… something!
Beautiful trailer for A Swedish Love Story, the first film (1970) by genius Swedish director Roy Andersson (Songs From the Second Floor), presumably before his signature “tableau” style evolved. I never knew it got re-released in France in 2008; does anyone know if it’s watchable over here?
